Gonadorelin is a synthetic acetate salt of gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH), a decapeptide produced by the hypothalamus. It acts on GnRH receptors in the anterior pituitary to stimulate synthesis and release of luteinising hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), the gonadotropins that regulate testicular and ovarian function. Research models use gonadorelin to study the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis, pituitary responsiveness, and endogenous sex-hormone production, with pulsatile versus continuous administration producing markedly different downstream effects.
