Cagrilintide: The Amylin Analogue Advancing Obesity Research

Cagrilintide targets the amylin system — a satiety pathway separate from GLP-1 — and is studied both alone and stacked with semaglutide. Here's the science.

Most of the attention in weight-loss research has gone to GLP-1 agonists, but Cagrilintide targets a different hormone entirely — amylin. That separation is exactly why it has become interesting: it can be combined with GLP-1 compounds to hit two satiety pathways at once.

What Is Cagrilintide?

Cagrilintide is a long-acting synthetic analogue of amylin, a hormone co-secreted with insulin by the pancreas after meals. Native amylin has a very short half-life. Cagrilintide is engineered for stability and albumin binding, giving it a long duration suitable for once-weekly research administration.

How Does Cagrilintide Work?

Amylin contributes to satiety through mechanisms distinct from GLP-1:

  • ·Slowed gastric emptying — like GLP-1 agonists, it prolongs the sense of fullness after meals
  • ·Central satiety signalling — acts on amylin and calcitonin receptors in the hindbrain to reduce food intake
  • ·Glucagon modulation — helps suppress inappropriate glucagon release after eating
  • ·Complementary to GLP-1 — because it uses the amylin pathway, its effects can stack additively with GLP-1 receptor agonism

Why Cagrilintide + Semaglutide?

The most-studied application is the combination of cagrilintide with semaglutide (studied clinically as "CagriSema"). The rationale is mechanistic: amylin and GLP-1 drive satiety through parallel systems, so activating both has produced greater weight reduction in trials than either alone. This is the same "hit multiple pathways" logic behind triple agonists like Retatrutide — but achieved by pairing two compounds rather than one multi-target molecule. See our GLP-1 comparison guide for context.

What Does the Research Show?

Trials of the cagrilintide/semaglutide combination reported body weight reductions exceeding those of semaglutide alone, positioning the pairing among the most effective obesity research protocols studied to date. Cagrilintide monotherapy has also shown dose-dependent weight reduction.

Reconstitution and Handling

Cagrilintide is supplied as a lyophilized powder, reconstituted with bacteriostatic water. Store frozen; refrigerate after reconstitution and protect from light. See our reconstitution guide and dosing calculator guide.

Available at JA Performance

Cagrilintide is stocked at ≥99% purity, verified by independent laboratory testing. Pair it with Semaglutide or browse the full weight loss collection.

Note: Cagrilintide is sold strictly for laboratory and in vitro research purposes. Not for human consumption.
